Natural Hair feature: Celina Ejeta

Hey all!
We are currently on Hair Feature series, promoting good hair in Nigeria and beyond. I feel blessed and proud each time I prepare the entries for this series. There has been an unconscious bias and a lack of understanding for how our hair is, with people thinking permed hair are standard and more manageable without realising the regime required to achieving good Natural Hair.

To be or to go natural is somewhat of a less concrete idea. In general, being natural means you don’t use any chemicals to alter the texture or natural curl pattern of your hair. That means no relaxers, no perms to curl naturally straight hair, and no texturizers to loosen tight curls.
Celina ejeta is here to narrate her natural story. She is married with kids, resides in Lagos state and a true natural hair lover.

Our Correspondent:. Why natural hair?

Celina: I returned natural because of the pains I feel whenever I use relaxer on my hair back then and seeing the beauty of natural hair made me take the bold step of doing the big chop.

Our Correspondent:.. Looking at how long and hard it is to maintain natural hair, what motivates you to keep going with the decision?

Celina: Natural hair is not what people think it is. Yes it’s difficult to maintain but once you know what works for you, you are good to go. I have never regretted returning natural. What motivates me the most is seeing my fro and the beauty it brings out on me.

Our Correspondent:.. What is your natural hair care routine like?

Celina: I don’t really have a special routine for my hair I wash once or twice in a month and put it in a chunky twist, I deep condition once a month and I do hot oil treatment once in two weeks. I moisturise daily

Our Correspondent:.. Are there any special products you use for natural hair?

Celina: No.. what I mainly use is extra virgin olive oil, Shea butter and water. I am not a product junk

Our Correspondent:.. Would you advice a friend to go natural? And what would be your reasons?

Celina:I do advise my family and friends to return natural because it brings out the beauty in you .. and many have returned natural seeing me flaunt my hair.

Our Correspondent:.. How does natural hair influence your style and personality?

Celina: My hair makes me feel on top. I wear my hair with so much confident and it makes me feel so comfortable

Our Correspondent:.. How long have you been keeping it?

Celina: My hair will be 2 years this August.

Our Correspondent:.Are there any health or hygiene hazards involved in growing natural hair

Celina: No ..

Our Correspondent:.. What is the biggest challenge when it comes to keeping your natural hair.

Celina: My biggest challenge is my wash day and using the spray bottle but am getting used to it gradually .

Our Correspondent:.. Your advice to people out there growing their natural hair

Celina: Growing natural hair requires patience and to stay natural one has to be consistent and do not be a product freak, sticks to what is working for you because what works for me may not work for you.
